OTI GALLERY :
Over the Influence Gallery was founded in Hong Kong in 2015 and expanded to Los Angeles in 2018 and Bangkok in 2022. We are thrilled to announce our forth gallery location in Paris opening with the show of Thai artist Gongkan. The gallery represents an international roster of emerging and established artists working across different mediums and disciplines. OTI is dedicated to championing artists who challenge traditional approaches to studio practice and presents a dynamic program that explores the intersection of contemporary art, architecture, design, music, fashion, and other forms of visual expression.

ASIA NOW :
For the 2022 edition of Asia Now, Over the Influence would like to present for the first time a solo show exhibition that invites all of us to rethink about our relationship with our everyday objects.
The artist present individual bodies of work that speak in conversation with one another, creating an exhibition that is witty and playful. The show allows viewers to escape into the same fantasy world we did as children, with the humour and satire that adulthood necessitates.

THE ARTIST | SOOYOUNG CHUNG :
For the artist Sooyoung Chung, from South Korea this series presents her most recent series of works and direction in her creative process. In the past year, the artist worked exclusively in linen canvas and focused on this series titled “ Biographical Object”. Each work has a simple number as a reference of our daily objects. Chung’s paintings in this series work in conjunction to each other to create a feeling of one painting - so much so that one can even see pieces as an unique wall of ordinary objects. This intentional choice continues to show how intertwined these series are. His pieces feature 2D versions of the artist's 3D figures.

ARTIST QUOTE :
“Everyday object as the intersection of personal mythology and collective identity”
I am exploring myself and others through the everyday spaces and mundane objects of people who live in contemporary life. A space contains intimate details about personal taste, and objects in it allude a person being in it without his or her existence. Furthermore, it reflects the identity of the community which they belong to. Painting a space filled with someone’s autobiographical things is like a portrait of him or her and also a community.

What lies between misery and joy, deprivation and desire in the countless relationship with numerous objects is the everyday life. Even on very normal days when nothing happened, a lot of things get involved in people’s daily lives. Most contemporary people share and consume products in a manner similar to that of others, creating “contemporary daily life”. Therefore, everyday space is accepted without any serious analyzing, as a shared language. Everyday space in my painting is a scene that starts from someone’s personal story, and can be the life of someone else.
